The Jake
Athletic Facility Signage & Graphics
at The University of Oregon

In the fall of 2023, the University of Oregon opened the first coaching and practice facility for their golf team. I designed installation graphics and signage to tell the story of the team’s history, recognize donors and players, and identify rooms and practice bays.

At the main entrance, the university ‘O’ in signature brand green identifies the student facility. Donors to the project are recognized here in neon hand-lettering, a format that offers the flexibility to add to the display in the future with minimal intervention.

The Peter & Jan Jacobsen Oregon Golf Teaching Facility, nicknamed “The Jake”, honors retired pro Peter Jacobsen and his wife Jan, both former UO golfers. The Jake sits on a nearby golf course and features a student clubhouse, swing bays with performance analysis, and indoor putting greens.

Stepping inside, visitors pass the story wall, honoring the Jacobsens’ legacy at UO. A tiered topographic mural adds a bold streak of color, and references the site of a historic conference win.

Operating on a modest budget of donor funding, economical signage was critical. Working primarily with vinyl decals and etched acrylic, pops of vibrant green throughout the clubhouse achieved maximum impact at minimum cost.

The finished result is a bright and open practice space accented with team colors and the swinging duck, the golf team’s custom mascot.

Go ducks!
